The Intentional Parent

“Children are like blank tapes, what you record is what they will playback.”( Rochelle Walker… my mother)

Parents are the experts regarding their children. We seek to empower parents with tools and skills to develop self love and advocacy skills that will enable relationship building that will support whole child growth and well being.

Our process is intentionally developed in a progressive format to empower parents to build upon skills learned to increase confidence and capacity to create impactful change in their lives and model the skills developed for their child(ren) and community

“What I know for sure is Love saved me, and it is here to save us ALL!” (Maya Angelou)

Developing Love and Kindness

  • Mother, Father, Woman, Man, will actively participate in a contemplative and explorative self-work program to grow compassion and understanding of themselves, and learn to make choices in alignment with their desires.

  • Develop a conscious awareness of how thoughts lead to actions, emotions, and physical experiences

  • Learn skills and strategies to “be the change they desire to see.” (Mahatma Ghandi)

Parent-Child Relationship Development

  • Parents will take a non-judgemental deep dive into their approaches to parenting (and life goals), including what they were taught, and examine how their parenting is aligned with the relationship they desire to experience with their child(ren).

  • Parents will take a contemplative approach to examine what they are teaching and develop an action plan to achieve the parenting relationship they seek.

  • Parents will learn skills and strategies to sustain effective and positive parenting for child(ren) from infant to adolescent and adult.

  • Parent will learn to see their child(ren) strengths, and how to elevate those strengths to support them through life’s puzzles

  • Parents will learn how to approach challenging conversations with their child(ren), (i.e., sex, drugs, suicide, bullying, identity), to build trust and grow the lines of communication.

  • Parents will learn how to build connecting habits to grow the relationship and understand the difference between punishment and discipline

Educational Advocacy- We believe ALL students deserve Individualized Education Plans

  • Parents will gain knowledge about their rights and responsibilities; and how to employ various resources, empowering them to elevate their child(rens’) educational experience

  • Parents will learn about the purpose of different school governing bodies and organizations such as: Local School Councils (LSCs), Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), Parent Advisory Councils (PACs)

  • Parents will be able to contribute/collaborate on curricular topics and provide resources to further the learning

Parent-Teacher Relationship- “You are not the annoying parent because you are loud, send too many emails, missed report card pickup, or are not as active as you want to be.”

  • Parents will learn how to develop a collaborative relationship with educators to ensure high quality education of their child and social emotional support

  • Parents to open to changing best practices as it pertains to their child’s development

  • Communication skills, strategies and best practices with teachers, administrators and peers

  • How to engage in meaningful conversations about race and equity that speak truth to power and honor ALL people.
